Why do I need to protect my water and sewer lines?

A broken water line can break the bank; a protection plan can save the day

As tap water flows into your household plumbing and waste water flows out, it passes through pipes that are buried underground. The sections of these lines that are buried under the street are the responsibility of the water utility, but the sections that are buried on private property are usually the responsibility of the property owner. And when these lines clog – or worse, break – they can create a big mess and an even bigger expense.

Water, sewer, and septic line breaks are more common than you may think. That’s because tree root systems are always expanding, and when they get in the path of buried pipes, they can cause massive damage that no one can see until it’s too late. Repairing these line breaks is difficult enough, but simply accessing the lines is often a job in itself, typically involving digging up the lawn or even the sidewalk.
