Different from a whole home warranty

Focused protection where you need it

Whole home warranties are all-or-nothing, requiring you to purchase blanket coverage. Protection plans allow you to select the systems and appliances you want to cover.

Substantial coverage for substantial repairs

Most of our plans pay up to $500 for covered repairs per service call, with up to $2,000 in annual coverage per plan.* Whole home warranties may have lower coverage caps.

No extra charges for covered service

There are no service visit charges when a technician comes to your home. Whole home warranties often require you to pay a trade call fee.

À la carte options

You can mix and match plans to get the right fit your home, so you never overpay for unwanted coverage.

A protection plan can help offset the high cost of unexpected household repairs. If a covered system or appliance breaks down, simply request service online or by phone using our simple claims process. A qualified service professional will diagnose the problem and perform covered repairs, and under most of our repair plans you’ll be covered for up to $500 per repair call and up to $2,000 annually. Some repair plans may also include annual preventative maintenance service and/or a system replacement credit that applies if the technician determines the problem cannot be repaired. See our sample Coverage Summary and Terms & Conditions for complete details.

Homeowners insurance covers major events that are rare and usually costly; fire, storm damage, theft and vandalism are a few examples of events that are typically covered by homeowners insurance. Most homeowners insurance policies have a deductible, and many mortgage lenders require borrowers to carry homeowners insurance until their home loan is paid in full.

Protection plans cover events that are more common and related to normal wear and tear, such as plumbing leaks, HVAC system breakdowns, appliance breakdowns or power surge damage. Our protection plans have no deductibles or service call fees, and there are no required home inspections or age limits on equipment. Protection plans are completely optional coverage, and they help fill in the gaps left by homeowners insurance.

Whole home warranties vary in their coverage terms, but in many cases, they are one-size-fits-all policies that cover several areas of a household. Because whole home warranty coverage tends to be so broad, the coverage may be shallow, with lower coverage caps on individual systems and appliances.

Protection plans generally offer deeper coverage for each individual area of the home, which makes it possible to put substantial coverage exactly where you need it most.

*Repair claims are limited to $500 per service call and $2,000 per plan in the aggregate per plan term. Plans are provided by NRG Protects Inc. Independent contractors will be performing various services under the plans. In some instances we may make a cash payment in lieu of repairs or replacement in the amount of actual cost, which may be less than retail, to repair or replace any covered system, component, or appliance.

Once repair plans commence, there is a 30-day waiting period before you may request services for a claim. Unless the plan provider elects not to renew the plan, upon expiration of the first year, the plan will automatically renew at the standard rate and terms unless you opt out of the auto-renewal option in writing by mail at P.O. Box 2309, Houston, TX 77252- 2309, by email at cancel@nrgprotects.com or by calling us at 1.855.241.9094. Sales tax will be added in select states.

This is a summary of what the provider will and will not cover under the plan, and is subject to the Terms and Conditions of the plan. The Terms and Conditions may limit the provider's contractual obligations due to coverage caps, coverage exclusions and any cash-back option available under the plan. Please refer to the Sample Terms & Conditions for details.
